Hassell uses Bluescape to globally improve collaboration and design
The designers and architects at Hassell, an award-winning international architecture and design practice, were used to sharing inspiration and ideas by hanging work on the walls of their studios. When the company decided it needed the same kind of sharing capabilities around the world, it turned to Bluescape.
"Hassell wanted a tool to digitize ideas. Bluescape is the best tool allowing us to add people from outside our organization into a project which is crucial for architecture," says Xavier De Kestelier, Head of Design Technology and Innovation for Hassell.
Using Bluescape allows Hassell team members to follow the entire design process in real-time and in one place. Team members can even pin up sketches and concepts to share with others – just like they had on the studio walls.
Hassell uses Bluescape on a variety of design and construction projects, beginning in the early stages of program and project management, and as an effective collaboration and presentation solution. Hassell teams now understand that working from remote locations is no longer a design challenge.
The platform was especially useful in 2022, as Hassell transitioned from nine studios to 750 “home studios” so designers could continue their work during the pandemic. "Within two weeks each project had its own Bluescape board. We use the technology for almost every project from site analysis to design reviews," adds De Kestelier. The benefits of a persistent online connection have continued to enhance collaboration and creativity.

Fast-track creation
Like Hassell, organizations everywhere are discovering the benefits of reinventing old-school processes with Bluescape’s virtual collaboration tools. Departments and teams save time in the creative process by…
- Holding meetings and working together in real time or independently
- Organizing assets in one place so everyone can share and reference each other’s work and streamline planning
- Uploading images, videos, and files in pixel-perfect quality to share ideas and work exactly as intended
- Capturing work-in-progress, including annotation and comments, to gain insight into project progress and reference past work and decisions
- Reducing the back-and-forth emails and file exchanges that can distract groups from being productive.
With Bluescape, organizations can ditch printouts and presentation decks. Instead, they can upload content, share assets directly from cloud storage and instantly assemble materials for review. Importantly, project communication makes the leap from emails to notes, influencing faster and more effective decision-making and revision cycles.
Bluescape’s other benefit: Protecting intellectual property
Ideas have meaning. Designs hold value. Bluescape features military-grade security that every organization can appreciate.
Bluescape stands as the most advanced FedRAMP-authorized visual collaboration solution, with industry-leading security, flexible deployment options, and content watermarking. For needs as diverse as architecture firms and defense agencies, Bluescape remains a trusted platform for sharing content.

For Hassell, using Bluescape results in better collaboration and better design outcomes. The platform allows Hassell team members to collaborate with multiple design and consultant organizations, regardless of time zones or preferred interface, from big screens to touch tablets.
"Bluescape has led to a greater cadence in our collaboration and design review sessions, resulting in better design outcomes regardless of project time zones and team location."
