What is IL5?
The Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide (CC SRG), published by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), standardizes the terminology and concepts that are unique to cloud computing and DoD usage of commercial cloud technology. The CC SRG defines four information impact levels based on both the sensitivity of the information to be stored and/or processed in the cloud and the potential impact of an event that results in the loss of confidentiality of that information.
Accommodates DoD information that has been approved for public release (Low Confidentiality & Moderate Integrity
AccommodatesDoD Controlled UnclassifiedInformation (CUI) (e.g., FOUO)
Accommodates DoD CUI & National Security Systems (NSS)
Accommodates DoD Classified Information up to SECRET
Seeking cloud-based solutions with this level of accreditation ensures that organizations can securely and confidently meet the government’s requirements to manage data in an unclassified environment with the most stringent security controls. Coupled with FedRAMP, IL5 is needed to meet the evolving and complex needs of DoD and federal agencies as they continuously transition into a digital-first, hybrid work environment.
Bluescape’s IL5 Designation
Bluescape achieved its IL5 authorization in February 2022. This unique security designation makes Bluescape the only online whiteboard solution with the authority to operate in a Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) environment. Founded and based in the United States, Bluescape’s data is stored solely in the U.S., whether on-premise or in the cloud. Under IL5, government agencies, contractors, and DoD users will enjoy expanded use of Bluescape’s virtual workspace and collaboration tools with unprecedented access to the most sensitive unclassified data available. This will empower dispersed uniform and civilian personnel with a common operating picture to brainstorm, collaborate, and communicate seamlessly and adeptly in a secure, virtual workspace. As a proven solution within the most sensitive defense, intelligence, and national security environments, Bluescape has also achieved the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Programs’ (FedRAMP) ‘In Process’ Designation, through sponsorship from the U.S. Air Force. Additionally, the platform meets NIST 800-171 and NIST Cybersecurity Framework compliance and supports Microsoft 365 Government Community Cloud High deployments.
